Reliance Jio has launched a fresh pair of smart glasses called Jio Frames, which use artificial intelligence to compete with the Meta Ray-Ban glasses. These glasses were presented during Reliance's 48th Annual General Meeting, held on Friday.

During the meeting, Reliance's Non-Executive Director Akash Ambani explained that “Jio Frames is a wearable platform powered by AI, designed specifically for India and supports many Indian languages.” He continued by saying, “It is a hands-free companion powered by AI, made for the lifestyle of people in India.” Ambani mentioned that the Jio Frames are capable of taking high-definition photos, recording videos, and even streaming live content on social media. All images and videos captured using Jio Frames are automatically stored on Jio AI Cloud.

These glasses feature built-in speakers that allow users to attend meetings, listen to music, enjoy podcasts, and answer phone calls. The AI technology used in Jio is designed to provide users with quick responses to their ongoing tasks. For example, Jio Frames can offer step-by-step instructions when cooking or provide a summary of a book a user is reading. Additionally, Jio announced new features for Jio AI Cloud, such as natural language search that supports Indian languages, although the exact number of languages available at the start isn't known yet. The service also uses AI to sort images into various categories. For instance, a receipt photo is saved under bills, while a scanned document like an Aadhaar card is organized under identity documents.

Jio has also introduced a new feature called Jio Create Hub, enabling users to “Transform standard photos into shareable reels, collages, or promotional videos.” The company provided examples of shopkeepers making professional product videos quickly or parents assembling a family album with a simple click. This feature is set to be launched “soon,” with more information expected to follow shortly.
