
The e-registration of passports for electronic use is became compulsory for passengers at the Abu Dhabi International Airports, the Abu Dhabi Airports Company announced. The move aims to improve passenger flow at the International Airports.
Earlier, the airports company launched the Smart Travel in March to reduce the time consuming by up to 70 per cent for a passenger to clear the airport's security checks.
Abu Dhabi Airports said in a statement, that, “As the school holidays have now started, we anticipate around 85,000 passengers will depart from Abu Dhabi International Airport this week. Similar numbers are expected over the Eid Holiday, with 6th, 10th and 11th July forecast to be the busiest days.”
“Abu Dhabi Airports advises passengers that E-registration, for the newly launched ‘Smart Travel’ initiative at Abu Dhabi International Airport, is now compulsory, and we therefore urge all travellers to arrive to the airport at least 3 hours before their flight departure time during this busy season,” the statement added.
“We have set up E-registration counters in the check-in areas so that guests can register as they wait to check-in. ‘Smart Travel’ was launched in March this year to enhance the passenger experience by decreasing processing times within the airport by up to 70 per cent,” it said.
Anita Mehra, Senior Vice President of Communications and Reputation, at Dubai Airports, said that, “Nearly a quarter of a million passengers will be passing through our facility every day during the two weekends. While we are very happy with the ongoing growth in traffic, we want to make sure that our customers can make the most of the wide range of food, spa & relaxation, shopping choices available at DXB, and have a comfortable and memorable start to their vacation.”
