
Former world’s heaviest woman, Eman Abdul Atti has arrived to the United Arab Emirates from Mumbai, India and had a restful first day at the Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, the hospital said.
After such a long journey she was placed in the Intensive Care unit at the hospital.
"A team of 20 specialists are looking after her," said a senior hospital official. These include intensivists, dieticians, physiotherapists, speech therapist and psychologists among others.
"It is just a day into her stay here and we are going easy on her. We do not want to change anything without a proper review. A meeting of the special team is due to be held on Saturday to decide the short and long term strategy that we will put in place," said the official.
Eman’s sister Shaima Selim said that her sister is very happy to be in the UAE. Eman expressed her happiness by waving at the nurses from the ICU, said Selim.
In a few days Eman will be shifted to her special room. She continues to have her special liquid diet that is calorie controlled and nutritionally balanced that is fed to her through a feeding tube.
At the time Eman arrived India, she weighed around 500 kilograms. Doctors said that she lost more than 250 kg in India.
She flew business class to the United Arab Emirates. Doctors say she will undergo a year of physiotherapy there.
In a short video released on social media Shaimaa Selim alleged that her sister was unable to speak or move, and not lost as much weight as the hospital was claiming.
The hospital strongly denied the allegations.
Dr. Muffi Lakdawala, who conducted the surgery said that Ms Selim wanted her sister to stay in hospital until she was able to walk again, but orthopaedic specialists had told her Ms Abd El Aty would never walk again.
