Indian wife on Holiday in Coma after accident

An Indian woman, who visited the UAE with her children on vacations to spend time with her Husband, met with an accident in Ras Al Khaimah that has left her in coma.

35-year-old Archana Shashidharan went to the UAE on a one month visit to her husband Shashidharan, a carpenter by profession, working in the UAE for the past 12 years – on March 25, from Kanhangad in Kerala. Archana was crossing a road with her family, when she was hit by a vehicle on April 6th.

"Within ten minutes, an ambulance came and rushed her to the government hospital. Later, she was shifted to a private hospital where she is undergoing treatment now. She is still unconscious and on a ventilator," said Shashidharan. He added the doctors are not sure when she will regain consciousness.

"We were going home at 8 p.m. after shopping on the day of the incident. We were all in a happy mood. She was walking in the front when we were crossing the road. As it is a busy road, many vehicles stopped to give way for us. But she didn't notice a vehicle on the slow lane, which hit her, causing severe head injuries," he recalled.

Archana took one month leave from her job to celebrate Vishu (Malayalee New Year) and their son’s birthday with her husband. "It was her first visit to the UAE. My two children, who are also on visit visa, are shocked by this tragedy," said Shashidharan.

The family was going to return to India on April 23.

Ras Al Khaimah Police Department has registered a case and relevant hospital documents have been submitted to the police.

The RAK Police Department did not comment on the case, but they assured that they are investigating on the case.
